JAMES STRENG

Streng Brothers Homes, Inc.

Bill and Jim Streng were born in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Throughout their lives, the two have followed similar paths. Both attended Dartmouth College and served in the U .S. Army. In 1957, they moved to Sacramento to start Streng Bros. Homes, Inc.

Their first project was the Evergreen Estates subdivision in Sacramento. They have developed, built and sold 3,800 homes. Eventually, the business expanded into commercial and apartment partnerships. Leasing the Heritage Oaks Plaza retail and office project in Auburn and owning and managing various commercial and apartment projects in Sacramento, Woodland and Davis as well as land development projects in Davis and Woodland.

Jim resigned as President in 1986 to serve two terms as a Sacramento County Supervisor. During his tenure, he served on the Sacramento Cable Commission, Sacramento Transportation Authority, Regional Sanitation Board, and the Sacramento Area Council of Governments.

The name "Streng" is associated with community service, as well as the building industry .Bill has worked with the Davis Economic Development Council, the Yolo County Housing & Community Development Advisory Council, the Davis Human Relations Council and the Davis Chamber of Commerce. The Chambers' Annual Business of the Year Award is named for him.

Bill was Chairman of the Board of the Business and Professional Bank from 1983 to 1997. Bill is a certified public accountant. Jim is equally civic minded. He is a founding member of HARPS (Home Assistance Repairs for Seniors) and the Community Association Institute, Sacramento Chapter. He has been involved with the American Lung Association, Sacramento Rotary, Young Presidents Organization and numerous other nonprofits. Jim has also been active with the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce, Sacramento Area Commerce and Trade Organization, and the World Business Forum. In 1985, he received the Citizen of the Year Award in Sacramento.

​Throughout their careers, the Strengs have been involved with the Building Industry Association of Superior California, Jim as a Past President and Bill representing Building Industry Association on the Sacramento County Energy Council. Jim was named Builder of the Year in 1980.
