By helping young kids understand the extensive opportunities in the homebuilding industry and creating a clear pathway to a career after graduation, the Donald Chaiken BITA program is not only helping students, it is also working to close the skilled labor gap and provide affordable housing to Californians.
The Donald Chaiken BITA program is a four-year construction trades training curriculum offered as a Career Technical Education (CTE) program. The curriculum and support services are provided, without cost, to California high schools by the California Homebuilding Foundation. The curriculum has a-g approved program status with the University of California, with BITA 1 – 3 qualified under the elective (g) subject requirement.
The process of bringing the program into the district includes a site visit to the potential high schools and completion of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Download Sample MOU.
Each site should have a classroom and construction lab space, as well as, an outdoor space for larger projects.
The foundation has pledged $5,000 to new schools joining the Donald Chaiken BITA program, so teachers can purchase the necessary tools and equipment to enhance the students’ educational experience and ready their facilities to integrate the curriculum. Download Tools & Materials List.
